Cultivating creativity in your classroom and soul
Hello all! Allow me to introduce myself and my story to you. My life has changed drastically in the past few years and it has all brought me here to my blog and to you.
I am a high school English teacher and Etsy shop owner in San Diego, California. Just a few years ago I was living my dream as a teacher. I always wanted to have a job that I felt good about, that I could pour my passion in to and see progress and change at the end of the day. As a young teacher I could really connect with my students, build relationships, bring energy and fun in to the classroom, and, coincidentally, be vulnerable to budget cuts. I love my home and my city, but a future in education had become nearly impossible with budget woes. “Pink Slips,” which ironically are not pink, have sadly become a normalcy in California and I was not immune.
I was determined not to give up, yet wasn’t sure where to turn. I found myself filling my time pinteresting, making homemade gifts for my friends and family, and sewing homemade goods for my home while looking for nonexistent jobs. During a time of little productivity on the job front, I was fulfilling my need to once again see progress and change in my life and those around me through handmade goods. Then one bright August morning I decided to take my income in to my own hands and began selling my handmade goods on Craigslist and various other outlets, but wanted something more… cue Etsy and it’s fabulous outlet for individuals like me and my new shop Pink Slip Inspiration. Etsy has allowed me to feel productive and successful once again. I truly love making the items in my shop. I feel a connection to people once again. If you can dream it, I can make it. I am constantly reinventing myself each day and finding new items that inspire me.
I am now back in the classroom AND enjoying my time here with you. As a teacher I encourage my students to constantly learn and educate themselves and I plan on living out these instructions. This Pink Slip hasn’t slowed me down, it has inspired me to perfect other skills and learn new ones 🙂 Thanks to all of you who inspire me each day! I hope you enjoy looking at the items in my shop and hopefully would like to add some of these goods to your own home. Many thanks for your interest in my shop and my story!
